Connoquenessing Creek
Connoquennessing Creek is a waterway that flows through western Pennsylvania, including Butler County. It is approximately 40 miles (64 kilometers) long and is a tributary of the Beaver River.
The story of Glade Run Lake, a 52-acre, man-made lake in Middlesex Township, is one of frustration, perseverance, and rebirth.
Originally opened in March of 1955, Glade Run Lake annually attracted thousands of anglers and visitors to the region until 2011 when a large crack was found in the dam that created the lake. The crack led to the lake being drained for safety reasons.
Left frustrated with a drained lake that provided recreation for so many – not to mention what was a powerful economic generator – area residents and Glade Run users joined together to develop solutions to the issue at hand. The Glade Run Lake Conservancy emerged and through fundraising and lobbying efforts were able to secure funding by the state and the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission to rebuild the dam.
