Glen Eden Barn
Glen Eden Barn229 Dufford Rd.
Evans City, Pennsylvania 16033
Overview
Originally built in 1860 along Glen Eden Road, the barn, owned by the estate of Gene and Dee Graham, descendants of early settler of Cranberry Township, Matthew Graham, was slated to be sold as part of a real estate development and torn down. The barn and farmhouse had been in the Graham family since its construction, but was restored by Gene and Dee in the 1950’s as they started their own dairy farm, Brookvue Acres. For the next half century, the barn was the epicenter of daily life for the Graham family. All six children and numerous farm hands pitched in to help run the dairy. Resigned to spend more time with their grandchildren, the Grahams retired, happily closing that chapter of their life. Their legacy carries on in Graham Park, a donation of their farmlands to the community, in Cranberry Twp.
Unutilized and falling into a state of disrepair after standing empty for twenty years, the Grahams’ youngest daughter, Vicky and husband David English, with the family's blessing, decided to rescue the barn before it collapsed or was demolished. The family came together to give the barn a new lease on life, by moving it to their property, a small farm twenty minutes north.
In 2019, the English family broke ground by creating a new driveway and pouring a concrete foundation to receive the barn that had been deconstructed by Amish crews earlier that year. Eight months later, the original beams of the structure were moved and reconstructed outside of Evans City. Since then, the barn has been reimagined and modernized, including the addition of a 90' deck and "milk-house" that holds a large prep kitchen and ADA bathroom.
The barn, overlooking the fields and pond below it, sits on a rise that affords a stunning view of the hillsides surrounding it which creates the Glen that morphs into a beautiful Eden that serves as the panoramic backdrop. The interior is an undeniable mix of industrial modern, paired with the rustic, hand-hewn barn beams, that make the Glen Eden Barn a unique space. Beautiful tongue and groove, red pine flooring and white pine ceiling gracefully contrast the two sets of expansive, black-framed rolling doors that lead either to the Northern Patio, or the south facing deck that runs the entire length of the barn. This new, steel-supported deck has a remarkable bird’s eye view of the property and the surrounding valley. A feature chandelier, designed and restored by the family, hangs from the center of the 35’ ceiling. The converted hayloft provides additional seating and overlooks the main floor. Sleek and contemporary perimeter sconces illuminate the entire space, allowing you to create your level of desired ambience.
The ground level space continues the Barn’s theme of ‘reconstructed rustic’. The wooden staircase and accent wall of reclaimed wood leads you to a second open space, perfect for small events or cocktail hour, with overhead steel beams and complimentary black-framed rolling door. A handcrafted wood bar sits in the center of the space, with a drink cooler and ice machine, and an additional prep kitchen is tucked behind salvaged barn doors. This space, which opens onto our South Patio, shaded by the deck above, overlooks the landscaped South Lawn and pond. The South Lawn, beautifully framed by the forested countryside, is a picturesque location for outdoor ceremonies and activities.
