Overview
Allegheny Valley Land Trust is the owner of the 36-mile Armstrong Trail, that travels from Rosston to East Brady, the 41-mile Redbank Valley Trail, that travels along the Redbank Creek from the Allegheny River to Brookville and the 9-mile Sligo Spur, from Lawsonham to Sligo. All are converted railroad corridors that are open for non-motorized recreation for the public.
These corridors offer rich railroad history such as a coaling tower, turntable, the Brady Tunnel (currently closed to trail users by order of the PUC) and coke ovens. Geocaches are abundant along with birding. There are a few Eagles nests visible from the trail along with locks 8 and 9 on the Allegheny River.
