A journey around Butler County is about uncovering gems you didn’t know where there. Jack Cohen, the President of Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau, recognizes each and every one of our local businesses as being very valuable to our community. Jack knows that a business is much more than what is mentioned in advertisements or in the paper, a business is something to be experienced and enjoyed and the only way to do that is to go out and see them.
To really experience some of the businesses in Butler County, I took a trip around the county with Jack. As an intern at Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau, it was a valuable opportunity to learn more about what this area has to offer.
Ever stay at the Pittsburgh Marriott North? This is a great example of a place that works like a well oiled machine! It’s clean, it’s on point, and its staff is well trained and wonderful to work with. You’ll never see a more organized Marriott because they really have it together! Not only is their service exemplary, their business spares no expense in their attention to detail and the overall appearance of the place. Looking for a great venue for a wedding reception or event? They are easy to work with and will provide you with a one-of-a-kind experience. They are organized, efficient, and will make sure that your event goes off without a hitch.
After seeing the service and quality highlighted at the Marriott, we took a trip to one of the coolest toy stores in existence, Playthings, etc. The building itself was modeled after a stealth bomber and the contents of this sleek looking ship are all kinds of family toys and hobby material. From the classic metal slinky to dress up clothes and stuffed animals, to puzzles and rocket ships this store has it all, and the best part is you can play with all of it before you buy it! Toys are meant to be played with and Playthings, Etc. lets you play with any toy they have sitting out. I took full advantage of the opportunity and made headway for the puzzle section. I enjoy puzzles, but sadly never can figure them out. Even though I enjoy puzzles, they were not my favorite toy I played with. The toy that is known as a devilstick or flower stick is another one of my favorites. It is so simple yet so entertaining to bounce the flowering stick between two other colorful sticks. I tried to do a few tricks, but It seems I will need more practice. If you don’t know how a toy works, an employee will gladly show you so that you can indulge in being a child just for a little while.
If you weren’t ready to leave the childhood mindset just yet, fear not for there is more magic and creativity that ebbs and flows from my next stop in Butler County. The Willy Wonka of glass mastery lives just down route 108 and through the woods. All kinds of crystal like treasures populate the grounds surrounding the area including the ghost of a legendary sword. Inside the Glass Blowing Center, Tom can help the magic of glass blowing unfold…
