Evans City Cemetery
The Evans City Cemetery is home to the ghostly graveyard where the opening scene was shot for the horror-classic film The Night of the Living Dead. The 1968 film is credited with beginning the world wide craze for zombies. Keep your eyes peeled for the famous “Blair” headstone which can be seen in the film. The Harmony Society Cemetery contains about 100 graves of Harmony Society members who passed away during the society’s ten years in Harmony (from 1804-1814). The graveyard’s stone wall stands perfectly straight, completed by the unique stone gate, shaped to represent the tablets of the Ten Commandments and weighing more than a ton.
